Keys to JVA / Remote Learning Success

Jefferson County Schools and JHS Leadership recognize that the school, caregiver, and student all must work together, and each have their own responsibilities to fulfill to ensure success in JVA and Remote Instruction.

Please take time to review these Keys to Success for important reminders, resources, and expectations to support students and caregivers in being situated for success with JVA and Remote Learning.

JCS Launches new Help Desk for Families

JCS has launched a live Help Desk hotline. Skilled technicians are standing by to help students and caregivers with questions about software like Google Classroom and to support hardware concerns on any device issued by Jefferson County Schools.

Families can call (304) 728-9054 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM Mondays and Fridays and from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Wednesdays. Those hours will likely expand as we get a better idea of how the service will be used.

Google Classroom Tip to Students/Parents

  1. If a student has completed an assignment AFTER the due date, the student needs to message their teacher in Livegrades or Outlook, whichever the teacher prefers, about that assignment with the class period so that the teacher can go back and fix the grade.  Teachers do not get notified by Google Classroom of a late assignment as it comes in.
  2. This short video shows students how to make a copy of a teacher's Google Doc in order to WRITE ON IT as an assignment if there is no student copy already created.  It shows how to easily ADD IT from their Google Drive in the "View the Assignment" box. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iv-yFR056wo.

JHS seeks info on technical issues with school devices

Jefferson County Schools is working on a way to assist families experiencing technical challenges with school devices used remotely (off school grounds) for educational purposes. Until that is in place, use the JHS-Family Technology Support form link provided to report technical issues with our device. The information will be reviewed by our Technology Administrator and forwarded to JCS' IT Department for assistance. This form is not intended for reporting internet/WiFi connectivity issues. Other languages are available using the drop-down arrow in the upper right corner of the form (Formulario en español disponible seleccionando la flecha de la esquina superior derecha / pestaña desplegable).

Family Technology Support Form

JHS working toward 1:1 technology

Jefferson County Schools is steadily progressing towards its goal of having a device for each student. It has not been an easy task and Jefferson High School has begun to align our technological resources to meeting this goal. We have two avenues available for students to obtain a school device. Based on information obtained from the Family Technology Survey, students are either assigned a device for home and school use for the semester or provided with a ticket to check-out device for use at school in the media center.

If your family has not submitted a Family Technology Survey or if your situation changes, please complete it by clicking the link below. The Family Technology Survey has been slightly modified. Parents are asked to provide their email so information may be verified and distribution notification may be given.
