Science Bowl

Science Bowl

The Science Bowl is a tournament-style academic competition challenging students in the fields of science and mathematics. The JHS Science Club fields a team of 5 outstanding students to compete in the West Virginia Science Bowl the first Friday and Saturday in February at WVU in Morgantown.

This overnight trip is provided at no cost to the student competitors. The U.S. Department of Energy’s National Energy Technology Laboratory and West Virginia University host this annual event, which draws more than 200 student participants from all over West Virginia.

While at the West Virginia Science Bowl, students also participate in a variety of high interest activities, including a SuGO robotics tournament, a Minecraft LAN party, a college information fair, a planetarium show and robotics demonstration, and a dinner reception hosted by WVU.

The winning team from the WVSB will receive a 5-day, expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C. to represent West Virginia in the National Science Bowl competition. The WVSB winning team will also take possession of the traveling trophy for one year, a banner for the school, and other individual prizes.
